A Dickinson concrete crew on your side
I spent years as the right hand to another concrete contractor before starting Vertex Dickinson Concrete in 2017. That's where I learned to set forms, finish a slab and talk a homeowner through the job before the truck shows up, and we still start every job that way.
Our crew works all over Dickinson and the cities around it, for homeowners, builders and small businesses alike. Call (701) 495-9954, send a request from our contact page, or read more about us first.

We pour and walk it
Once you say go, we get buried lines marked, handle the permits that fall to us, plan the pour around the forecast and walk the finished job with you.
What we check before any concrete goes down
Most of what decides how a slab holds up happens before the truck backs in.
Ground and base
- Soil under the slab
- Digging out soft dirt
- Packing the base
- Hauling off old concrete
Water and drainage
- Where runoff goes now
- Slope away from the house
- Downspouts and low spots
- Where snowmelt collects
Pour and finish
- Forecast for pour day
- Thickness for the load
- Where joints get cut
- Finish and texture
Concrete can crack a little, and that's normal
Even good concrete shrinks as it dries, so a hairline crack or two is usually normal and doesn't mean the slab failed. We cut grooves called control joints so cracks have a planned place to go, and I'll show you where they are before we pack up.

The standard we pour concrete to
These are the parts of the job we won't cut corners on, even when the budget's tight.
Base comes before finish
The base is the first thing people want to cut because nobody sees it on day one, but I'd rather trim the finish, since a slab on loose dirt settles with it.
Pours timed around the heat
Hot afternoons dry a fresh slab too fast and can leave a weak, dusty top, so we'd rather start early and finish before the heat.
Steel where it's needed
Rebar, steel rods set inside the slab, helps hold it together if it cracks, so we place it where heavy loads and soft ground call for it.
Common concrete questions in Dickinson
How much does concrete work cost in Dickinson, ND?
It depends mostly on the size, how much digging and base work the ground needs, and the finish you choose. Tearing out an old slab or choosing stamped or colored concrete adds to it, while a plain finish keeps it lower. Your estimate spells out what's included, so you can see where the money goes.
How long until I can use my new concrete driveway or patio?
You can usually walk on it before you can drive on it, and I'll give you the dates when we pour. That wait is curing, the time new concrete needs to gain strength before it takes a load. When we pour depends on the forecast and on permits, which we check with the City of Dickinson before we start.
What should a concrete estimate include?
A good estimate spells out the digging, base, thickness, steel, finish and cleanup, plus what isn't included. Ours does, so when other bids come in you're comparing the same work. If one bid is much lower, check which of those lines is missing.
How do I get my yard ready for a new concrete slab?
Mostly by clearing the spot and a path to it, moving vehicles, planters and toys so our crew and the truck can get in. The utility markings don't cover private lines, so tell us about sprinkler lines, pet fences or anything else you've buried yourself.
What concrete finish is best for a driveway or patio?
A broom finish, the light brushed texture, is the practical pick for most driveways and walks because it gives shoes and tires grip when it's wet or icy. Stamped and colored finishes suit a patio or entry, though they can be slicker and need resealing, so I'll talk through that before you pick.
How does Dickinson's winter affect new concrete?
Dickinson's cold is the biggest test new concrete faces, and its first winter is when it's most tender. Water that sits on or under a slab freezes and pushes, so the base and drainage matter even more here. I'll tell you how to go easy on it, like skipping deicing salt that first season.
